Complete Guideline to Higher Education Abroad
Many students dream of pursuing higher education abroad. But the path is not without its challenges! However, with proper guidance, planning, and strong determination, this dream can absolutely become a reality. You can study abroad with scholarships or funding—no matter how average your academic results are.
Language barriers, choosing the right country or university, financial hurdles, visa processing—yes, it can all feel like a huge battle. But just like Sun Tzu wrote in The Art of War, "Victorious warriors win first and then go to war." In other words, preparation is everything!
1. Set Your Goal – Shape Your Dream
Start by asking yourself:
- What do I want to study? (Choose your subject)
- Which country do I want to go to? (USA, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Japan, Australia?)
- What is my long-term career goal?
If your goals are unclear, you’ll lose direction and stumble in the following steps. So, grab a pen and paper and map out your dream.
2. Choose Subject, Universities & Scholarships
- Find out which universities are strong in your chosen field.
- Explore scholarship options like DAAD, Erasmus, Chevening, Fulbright, MEXT, CSC, etc.
- Make a shortlist of universities with deadlines, eligibility requirements, and a checklist of required documents.
3. Improve Language Skills – IELTS/TOEFL/GRE
Remember: The best battle is the one you never have to fight!
Why let a lack of English skills hold you back?
- Without IELTS or TOEFL, you might not even get a visa, let alone a scholarship!
- Improve your English in all areas: writing, speaking, listening, and reading.
- If you're applying for a PhD in the USA/Canada, GRE might be required.
Although it's possible to study abroad without IELTS, your chances of getting a scholarship or funding are very slim. Many embassies also require IELTS for visa applications. A good score can solve two problems at once—admission and visa.
4. Arrange Your Finances – Scholarships Are the Key
Studying abroad is expensive, so focus on fully-funded scholarships. Some countries allow part-time work, which can help cover expenses. But going without funding is risky.
- Look for full scholarships (like DAAD, Erasmus Mundus).
- Check if part-time jobs are allowed (Germany, Canada allow this).
- Explore scholarships from the Bangladesh government.
Don’t get discouraged! If you don’t get a scholarship the first time, try again. As Sun Tzu said, "Be like water—flow around the obstacles, but never stop moving!"
5. Prepare Your Application Documents
Keep all required documents ready in advance:
- Academic transcripts
- Updated CV/resume
- Statement of Purpose (SOP) – extremely important!
- Two Letters of Recommendation (LOR)
- Passport (must be valid for at least 1 year)
6. Visa Preparation – The Final Step
To get a visa, you'll need:
- Offer letter from the university
- Proof of scholarship/funding
- Health insurance (mandatory in some countries)
- Be ready for a visa interview—be confident and honest.
Remember:
"Be like water—flow around the barriers!" – Sun Tzu
You might not get a scholarship on your first try. Admission may not work out initially. Don’t lose hope. Keep trying. Keep pushing forward.
Studying abroad is not just about a degree—it’s a life-changing experience. Challenges will come, but if you set your goal, work hard, and move forward, your dreams will take you to success!
Sun Tzu said: "Let neither fear nor despair control you!" So plan wisely and start trying today.
✅ Set your goal.
